The base of the figure was made from wire, which was wrapped and twisted around various points. From that - the pieces that “shouldn’t” bend were strengthened with masking tape and paper-mache.
Originally I had planned to make the figure into a lanky skeleton… and then I decided it was too boring and wanted to create something with a little more charm and character, something with a blank face so all expression would rely on movement and body language.
I went through some different ideas for head shapes and possible hairstyles before I settles on a smart-casual kind of look. I quite liked the black and
white look of the sketches though and decided I would make the model from black polymer clay which would be strong although maybe a bit heavy… Only one way to find out though! If anything it would provide some practice with sculpting at least.
I’ve yet to start work on properly sanding down the rest of the figure but I’ve been thinking about the kind of character this wee guy will be.
I wanted an outfit to contrast the figure but match the smart-casual hairstyle and came up with the concept of some kind of shadow-y entity on his holidays, perhaps a brightly coloured Hawaiian shirt? Socks with sandals? I’ll work on a few concepts in the next few days and make an update on how the figure’s looking too.
